So seriously, if you don’t follow this guy on at least one of your social media accounts, you can’t really call yourself a ‘car fan.’ I don’t believe in litmus test politics, but that’s my litmus test.
So anyway, this piece of automotive porn appears on my feed.
behold the V-12 Peugoet V-12 HDi FAP fap fap fap. For those who don’t recall, this was a rocket ship when it appeared. Low outboard turbos, short-line intercooler plumbing it had it all. And those swirling things.
Speaking of, what is the goal of those swirling things? Disturbance versus flow? I can’t recall seeing anything outside of a laser copier toner drum shaped like that.

I imagine it is to help with airflow in some way. Doubt Peugeot would ever tell you.

Maybe it is to direct a portion of the air into the inlet ports, seeing there are 12 swirling things, and 12 cylinders.

Not really sure about the swirls, since you don’t need them for mixing. Also, all of your tumble / swirl going into the chamber is caused by the intake port shape. Only thing I can think of is they are actually longer runners internally that you can’t see in the picture.
